Dear Colleagues, St.Petersburg State Polytechnical University and the SysPatho consortium of the FP7 Framework program invite you to participate in the SysPatho workshop «Systems biology and medicine», that will be held 11 -14 September 2012 in St.Petersburg (Tsarskoe Selo). Systems biology studies biological processes as a system of interrelated components and builds a bridge between sophisticated laboratory experiments and mathematical modeling, between high-tech data measurements and computer-aided data evaluation. A main reason for the recent emergence of systems biology is the tremendous progress of experimental techniques and research tools within the past decades, offering for the first time tools for the comprehensive quantitative and dynamic analysis of complex biological processes at a large scale. Systems biology represents a young, novel, and very dynamic branch of natural sciences. As a truly interdisciplinary approach combining life sciences and theoretical disciplines, systems biology opens the chance to understand the nature of complex diseases like cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, as well as to decipher the underlying mechanisms of viral infections. Based on the progress in this understanding, systems biology will help to develop new tools for diagnosis, drug development and treatment. Ample opportunities lie also in the field of bio-economics, e.g. by providing new tools for biological chemical production or improved plant yields. Main workshop topics are:
Special sessions to foster European-Russian collaboration and discuss joint projects and funding possibilities will be organized. The workshop will include keynote lectures, oral and poster presentations. We welcome the participation of young scientists and talented graduate and PhD students ! We would like to invite you to the forthcoming workshop!
